Michael Derrer, MA, Consultant and Interpreter for Eastern Europe and Russsia
Academic Background
Michael Derrer's studies of political sciences and economics in Lausanne and Geneva fell into the period of the great political changes in Eastern Europe. In order to witness the unfolding events he spent study periods in Bucharest and in Moscow. He finished his interdisciplinary studies with an MA in Public Management. Further education in didactics, project management and business administration complete his profile.
Management Experience
After his studies Michael Derrer worked in Switzerland's export promotion, later in a Zurich-based trading company - in both functions responsible for the countries of the former Soviet Union.
1998 - 2004 he built up PraxisTransfer, an agency for the cooperation of Swiss consultants with Eastern European companies and universities.
Self-Employed Consultant
On the basis of his network in Eastern Europe Michael Derrer founded his company Ascent Swiss Business Management AG and its Eastern European subsidiaries in 2004. As a project manager, consultant and interpreter he mainly works in Kiev, Moscow, Bucharest and Warsaw, as well as in Switzerland for customers from Eastern Europe.
Translator and Interpreter
Michael Derrer is a member of the Swiss Association of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters ASTTI and accredited for five Eastern European languages. He is of German mother tongue and speaks excellent Russian, French, English and Romanian, fluent Italian, Polish and Spanish and has good knowledge of Ukrainian, Belorussian, Czech, Slovak, Bulgarian and Serbo-Croatian.
Analytic and didactic Work
Michael Derrer writes articles about the economies of Eastern Europe for different publications. He also is a lecturer in management, economics and law at different business schools.
Memberships and Other Functions
Michael Derrer is an official expert of the Swiss trade promoting agency OSEC, correspondent for Eastern Europe of the Swiss Export Association, and privileged member of the Chamber of Commerce Switzerland - Central Europe. He also regularly cooperates with the research institute Eco'Diagnostic in Geneva.
