The owner and CEO of Ascent, Michael Derrer, obtained practical management experience in Eastern Europe and Russia during twelve years. As a project manager, consultant and interpreter he mostly works in Kiev, Moscow, Bucharest and Warsaw.

Michael Derrer's study of political sciences and economics in Lausanne and Geneva fell in the time of the political revolutions in Eastern Europe. The events attracted him to spend study periods in Bucharest and in Moscow and to learn the local languages. He then worked in the Swiss export promotion, later in a trading house - at both places responsible for the countries of the former Soviet Union. 1998 - 2004 he built up and directed an organisation for the know-how transfer to Eastern Eruope, financed by the Swiss Ministry for the Economy.

In 2005 Michael Derrer founds Ascent Swiss Business Management AG and her East European subsidiaries.

Michael Derrer is a member of the Swiss association for translators and interpreters ASTTI. He is of German mother tongue, has excellent knowledge of Russian, French, English and Romanian, is fluent in Italian, Polish and Spanish and has also good knowledge of Ukrainian, Belorussian, Czech, Slovak, Bulgarian and Serbo-Croatian.

Besides his activity as a manager and interpreter Michael Derrer regularly contributes economic analyses
about East European countries to different publications.
